BOGALUSA — Though he's a California native, at least one person on People Magazine's recent story on America's most eligible bachelors, has a Bogalusa connection.

Thirty-six-year-old Irvine, CA, native Dr. Kevin Armstrong, is one of People's Top 50 Bachelors. Armstrong is the son of Bogalusa and California resident Kathryn Dean Armstrong and the late Technical Sgt. Welton Armstrong. He is the grandson of the late Alvina Lewis Dean, Dorris "Bubba" Dean of Bogalusa and the late Charlie and Rosie Mae Armstrong. Both of Armstrong's parents were members of the class of 1960 from Bogalusa's Central Memorial High School.

Armstrong is an orthopedic surgeon who lives in Seal Beach, CA. He graduated with a bachelor's degree from Princeton University and went on to earn his medical degree from UCLA.

He is a knee and shoulder specialist in the orthopedics department at the University of California at Irvine. He is the team doctor for three CA high schools and for athletes at UCI.

The former college football cocaptain says he likes being able to "intertwine athletics with my medical career."

The People story quotes Armstrong saying, "To be with someone and continue to grow with that person for the rest of your life — that's the big prize."

He added that his ideal woman would be "independent, assertive" and someone who "plays pickup basketball once or twice a week."

Armstrong was also profiled in an issue of California's Orange Coast Magazine earlier this year in a story titled "Men of the Hour." That story calls his resume "untouchable" and mentions that he was also valedictorian of his high school class at Woodbridge High School.

Armstrong's three siblings include sister Karen, who is a senior client associate at Merrill Lynch in Beverly Hills, CA, brother Byron, a flight line mechanic with Northwest Airlines in Los Angeles, CA, and brother Welton Dwayne, who lives in Melbourne, Australia, where he works for the NFL after playing AuzieRule football for four years.
