Dist. to meet

VARNADO — The Varnado Waterworks District Commission will hold its regular meeting at 4 p.m. on Oct. 12 at the district office on La. Hwy. 21.

The Bogue Lusa Waterworks District Commission will meet at 5 p.m. on Oct. 25 at the office on Ralph Drive.

Voters League

plans political forums this month

BOGALUSA — An ongoing political forum for the Nov. 2 election will be held at the Bogalusa Voters League headquarters on Martin Luther King Drive and North Avenue Tuesday nights throughout October.

The gatherings will take place at 7 p.m., and the public is encouraged to attend.

Anti-reservoir

groups to meet

VARNADO — Members of two groups of parish citizens who are fighting the establishment of a reservoir in Washington Parish plan to hold a joint meeting tomorrow at Varnado High School.

According to Diane Schwegman, a spokesperson for the group from the Angie-Varnado area, representatives of the Sierra Club are expected to attend the meeting, which begins at 6:30 p.m. The meeting is open to the public.

White Consortium

to meet in Tangi

HAMMOND — The Region IX Ryan White Consortium will meet Oct. 15 at the Tangipahoa Parish Health Unit, 15481 Club Deluxe Drive, Hammond.

The group addresses the needs and issues surrounding Ryan White Care Act services for those persons infected and affected by HIV/AIDS on the Northshore.

Franklinton AARP

to meet Wednesday

FRANKLINTON — The Franklinton Chapter of the AARP invites individuals aged 50 and over to join them in their monthly meeting Oct. 13 at the Masonic Lodge, 901 Cleveland St. The meeting begins at 10 a.m.

The guest speaker will be Parish President Toye Taylor. Light refreshments will be served.

Foster parent

orientation set

SLIDELL n The Louisiana Department of Social Services Home Development Unit will hold an orientation meeting for prospective foster and adoptive parents on Oct. 19 from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the St. Tammany Parish Library, 555 Robert Blvd., Slidell.

To be eligible to foster or adopt a child, people must be between 21 and 65 years of age. They may be single, married, divorced or widowed. They may own or rent their home and may live in an apartment, trailer or house.

Applicants are required to pass a criminal records check and they must complete 10 sessions of training.

Previous parenting experience is desired, but not required. The most important qualifications are reportedly being warm and tolerant and having a sense of commitment to helping others by providing a nurturing environment for a child in need.

Parish Republican

committee to meet

BOGALUSA n The Washington Republican Executive Committee will meet at 6 p.m. Tuesday at C&B Grill on Louisiana Avenue.

The committee will recognize Republican officials recently elected throughout the parish, including Angie Police Chief James Holmes, Angie Aldermen Gilbert Ball and Roxie Fornea, Varnado Police Chief Leroy "Slick" Seal and Varnado Alderman Suzi Kennedy.

Members will also fill vacancies on the committee, hear reports from state Central Committee members Chip McVea and Larry D. Miller and hear reports on the Bush-Cheney presidential election campaign.

Co-chairman Georgine Holcombe will serve as hostess for the event, which is open to the public.
