Although "the public is invited to observe the meeting," there will be no opportunities for public input on the matter, Pierce said.
"It will not be a public hearing," Pierce said.
"We don't have the jurisdiction for receiving public comment about permitting," Pierce said. "We have a duty to gather the scientific, factual and technical data," which is compiled from studies and surveys by professionals and engineers, he said.
The public has been given opportunities to address the board by submitting questions or concerns in writing to the commission.
The commission welcomed scientific, factual and technical data to aid the commission in the gathering process. "As of [yesterday] morning, I have found none that have been sent…I know we've extended the opportunity for it to be done."
Pierce said the commission has been "true to form and right on target" in its purpose thus far, and that the commission is "anxiouslyawaiting [Denmon's] report and recommendation."
"I would invite anybody from the public to come and observe," Pierce said, "but it's not for public comment, not for public hearing."
Upon the commission's action, information will be presented to the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, who has the authority to conduct a public hearing. "They have the legal jurisdiction of receiving public comment on permitting issues," Pierce said. "Not this commission."
Pierce said if those considering participating in the meeting have "any other purpose in mind" than to allow the commission to complete its duties as an appointed commission, "I would ask them to reconsider."
The meeting will be held tomorrow at 4 p.m. at the Washington Economic Development Foundation office, 524 Georgia Ave., Bogalusa.
