The Washington Parish Tourism Commission wants to make sure the 2006 Official Louisiana Tour Guide includes local information, and it's asking for assistance in promoting the parish.

The publication of the guide was postponed due to hurricanes Katrtina and Rita. Now, the Louisiana Office of Tourism (LOT) and the LA Travel Promotion Association (LTPA) are getting back to work on what they hope will be a truly useful and beautiful publication for promoting travel to Louisiana.

This year, the guide will grow from a digest-sized book to a full-sized magazine, packed with information about the state.

As the planning process begins, LOT and LTPA are asking for information about specific areas. They have requested the following information:

Top 10 can't-miss activities and attractions and off-the-beaten-path activities and attractions in the area

Information about the people and places that make up the area's culture and make it special. That includes such things as local artists, museums, musicians, performance halls and more

New dated photographs of the area

Positive hurricane stories, focusing on personal human interest. Examples include neighbors helping neighbors and reunion stories.

A 25-word description of what makes the area unique.

Photograph submissions must be of good quality. A signed release is required, and photo credit is not guaranteed. The pictures may be submitted in any format - slide, transparency, photograph, digital file (jpeg or Macintosh Photoshop TIFF file, DPI: 400 at 100 percent). The photographs will not be returned.

The tourism office encourages contributions and asks that they be sent as soon as possible, since the push is on to get the guide completed. For additional submission information, contact Kathi Mayor at the Washington Parish Toursim Office, 839-5228.
