Mardi Gras exhibit
at Pioneer museum
BOGALUSA - The Pioneer Museum is featuring an exhibit on the history of Mardi Gras in Bogalusa. Costumes, scepters, crowns and other memorabilia of former Magic City Carnival Krewes royalty are displayed. The exhibit will be through the month of February. The museum is located in Cassidy Park and is open from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturdays and from 1 to 4 p.m. on Sundays. Permanent exhibits are artifacts and educational material from early Indian Habitation in Bogalusa through the early settlers era, the sawmill and papermill eras. For more information, call 732-9752.
Quilt exhibit
at museum
FRANKLINTON - The D. A. Varnado Store Museum special exhibit January and February is quilts, featuring antique quilts from the D. A. Varnado Store Museum collection as well as those on loan from collectors. The quilt exhibit is one of the most popular offered by the museum.
In addition to antique quilts, the exhibit will feature new quilts and other quilted pieces of clothing, table runners, and wall hangings. Quilting demonstrations by local quilters will be offered.

Seventy-first Coronation April 11
BOGALUSA - The Seventy-first annual Children's Coronation will be held Friday, April 11, in the BHS Auditorium. The theme for this year will be "Royalty of the World." This theme will depict costumes of royalty throughout history. A $25 registration fee is required. It will be open to all kindergarten children in Washington Parish. Wild Game cook-off planning under way
BOGALUSA - The second annual Bogue Chitto Pearl Wild Game Cook-Off and BBQ, organized by Friends of the Washington Parish Library, will be held in Bogalusa's Cassidy Park from 4 to 7 p.m. on Saturday, April 19. The Cook-Off is a first-class competition between local civic groups and some of the best wild game and BBQ cooks in the region. Food and outdoor family entertainment will be provided. Tickets

YMCA fitness center accepting members
BOGALUSA - The YMCA is holding a new year's special for membership. A six-month agreement, paid in advance cost $120 or regular fee of $30 a month.
Memberships help provide programs for children through senior citizens such as art classes, aerobics, boxing, dancing, after school tutoring, basketball, flag football, swimming, gymnastics and more.
TANF tutoring and enrichment offered
BOGALUSA - Temporary Assistance For Needy Families tutoring and enrichment program under the direction of Dr. B. Quillen Humbles is offering free tutoring and homework help for students in first through fifth grades. Certified teachers will help with Language Arts and Mathematics in and test taking skills. Transportation and snacks will be provided.
The program is held 4 p.m Monday through Thursday at 1410 A Mack Street.

Veteran's group needs volunteers

HOSTS program needs volunteers
BOGALUSA - The HOSTS (Help One Student To Succeed) program needs volunteers for mentors to help for 30 minutes on Monday, Wednesday or Thursdays at Pleasant Hill Elementary School. Time slots are: 8:10 to 8:40 a.m., 8:50 to 9:20 a.m., 9:30 to 10 a.m., 10:10 to 10:40 a.m., 10:50 to 11:20 a.m., 11:30 to noon and 1:30 to 2 p.m. For more information, call HOSTS coordinator Mary Lucas at 281-2167 or the school at 732-9771.
