Once again, the Venturer 313 and 785 crews of Bogalusa and the Varnado-Bush 200 crew have taken top honors in the annual Explorer/Venturer Bogue Chitto River Marathon race.

Tired, but enthusiastic, they pulled their canoes onto the bank at Lock No. 2 on the Pearl River Navigation Canal yesterday in Bush. With just a few moments to rest and re-hydrate, they gathered under a sprawling oak tree draped in moss to receive their team and individual awards.

Next they’re off to the national Explorer/Venturer 120-mile White River Canoe Marathon Race, which begins in the Ozark Mountains of northern Arkansas on July 24. More pictures from the award ceremony will follow on Wednesday.
