At least two people were shot after gunfire erupted at an abandoned house in the Angie area earlier this week, and detectives expect arrests to be made soon, according to the Washington Parish Sheriff’s Office.

Around 6 p.m. Tuesday, WPSO received a call that a shooting had taken place at an abandoned house on McGowan Road near Angie, and two Varnado High students — a 17-year-old and an 18-year-old — had been shot.

The 18-year-old male was shot in the leg with a small-caliber handgun, and the 17-year-old male was shot in the left side of the face near his temple but not severely, said WPSO Deputy Chief Shannon Lyons. Both were treated for injuries at LSU Bogalusa Medical Center, and have since been released.

From the scene of the crime, detectives have recovered numerous shell casings and one vehicle was also impounded as evidence, Lyons said.

No arrests have been made, and it’s unclear exactly how many shots, or even how many shooters, there were during the Tuesday gunfight.

“We have been receiving conflicting statements,” Lyons said.

WPSO requests anyone with information to call Lt. Kenny Kellis or Detective Michelle Brumfield with the WPSO substation in Bogalusa. They can be reached at 732-7187.

Sheriff Robert Crowe was quite disturbed to hear about the incident and said WPSO will not rest until the crime is solved, Lyons said.

The gunfight was an escalation of a previous argument that actually started on Monday, Lyons said. The verbal argument — reportedly over a girl — started between two individuals who were at the abandoned house.

The next day at Varnado High, another verbal argument ensued, and the two parties decided to meet after school on the basketball court at Recreation Center Road, Lyons said.

At about 5 p.m. Tuesday, that fight took place with 20 or so onlookers, Lyons said.

“We actually responded to that fight, but it dispersed before we got there,” he said.

The two opposing parties gathered back at the abandoned house less than an hour later, and that’s when the shooting took place.

There are several suspects in the case and detectives expect to make arrests soon, Lyons said, adding WPSO would appreciate any help from the public.

" What ever happened in this case? Is it still pending or closed. I haven't heard anyone being charged with anything nor have I heard that any arrest were made. What's going on with this? WP wants to know. "
