Two organizations have announced events for the upcoming Martin Luther King Jr. Day.

The Bogalusa Voters League will celebrate the Jan. 19 holiday with a march beginning at the League building at the corner of Martin Luther King Jr. and North avenues at 1 p.m. The march will proceed to the Greater Ebenezer Baptist Church, and follow with a program in the church. The program leader will be the Rev. Christopher Matthews. The theme of the program is “Blessed,” which is taken from President-elect Barack Obama’s first name, said organizer Marvin Austin of the League. Austin said Barack is translated as “blessed.”

Royan Burris, a businessman and civil rights leader, will the grand marshal of the march.
