• Three Washington Parish youngsters who brought home Grand Champion belt buckles and ribbons from the Beef Show of the Southeast District Junior Livestock Show at the St. Tammany Parish Fairgrounds in Covington.
Ariel Seal won for her Simangus bull, Clint Stogner won for his Charolais bull and Lakin Wood won for her Beefmaster bull.
• Franklinton native DR. JOHN CRAIN, on being selected as one of four finalists for the position of president at Southeastern Louisiana University.
• The WASHINGTON PARISH FREE FAIR, named as recipient of the Fair of the Year Award during the Louisiana Association of Fairs and Festivals convention in Baton Rouge. Dennie Fowler was also named as recipient of the 2008 Professional of the Year Award.
