Back‘log’ at the mill

The Temple-Inland Bogalusa paper mill is facing a backlog of sorts, but it will allow mill workers to keep running at full production during the upcoming rainy season, a mill official said.

During the mill’s recent two-week shutdown for maintenance, incoming logs began to pile up, creating a huge mound of cut pines visible from nearby Columbia Street.

“We continued to take wood during that time,” said Ellis Sampson, the mill’s human resource director.

But that’s a good thing, he said. And now, mill workers will have their hands full as the spring rainy season begins, typically a time when fewer logs make their way into the paper mill, Sampson said.
