‘We salute...’

Each Friday, The Daily News will recognize individuals and businesses in Washington Parish who have gone “above and beyond” in their efforts to make this a better place to live, work, play and raise a family.

We believe that an integral part of a community’s wellbeing is an attitude and arena where people who do good things - who work to improve life for others - who try to make a difference - are recognized and saluted.

Because this is a salute to members of the community of Washington Parish, we solicit your recommendations for groups or individuals to be considered for inclusion.

This week we salute:

• STUDENTS FROM NORTHERN MICHIGAN UNIVERSITY, in Marquette, Mich., who volunteerd last week building three Habitat for Humanity homes in Bogalusa.

• The 100 motorcyclists, who on March 7 participated in a fundraising ride across the parish for RODNEY CARRIER, a local resident undergoing cancer treatments.

• LSU Bogalusa medical center, for actively fighting the battle against cancer by giving away free colorectal screening kits this week.

• COACH KEN MARTIN AND THE BOGALUSA HIGH BOYS BASKETBALL TEAM, for another great season. Martin was named the District 10-3A Coach of the Year and the boys were co-champions of the district.
