Charles Ellis Bateman Jr. died on March 28 at his residence in Varnado. He was a U.S. Army Veteran and served in the Korean Conflict. He was a member of Pine Grove Missionary Baptist Church.

He is survived by his cousins, Haskell Loy Seal Jr. of Ruston, Kathryn Seal Lirrette of Houma, Priscilla Seal Sharrock of Denham Springs, Amanda Seal Williams of Morristown, Ind. and Gayle Bateman Ahysen of Franklinton.

Visitation was held from 5:30 p.m. until 9 p.m. on Tuesday at Poole-Ritchie Funeral Home, continuing on Wednesday from 9 a.m. until time for the funeral service at 1 p.m., with the Rev. Donnie Broom officiating. Interment will follow at Seal Cemetery in Varnado.
