W. C. Cook, age 76, died at 1:35 a.m. on Monday, April 13 at his residence in Mount Hermon.

He was a retired dairyman and a member of Mount Hermon Baptist Church, where he had served as a Sunday School teacher and Superintendent and was the leader of R. A.’s for a number of years. He was a Washington Parish Fair Association Board member and a past member of Mount Hermon Ruritan Club.

He taught and coached basketball at Mount Hermon High School for 27 years and was selected Coach of the Year numerous times. He also coached at Bowling Green School and Silliman Academy. He was instrumental in starting the first girl’s high school All-Star game in 1974.

He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. He was always proud of the accomplishments of his children and grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife, Elaine Wilkes Cook of Mount Hermontwo sons: Brad (Jo Ann) Cook of Denham Springs; Randy Cook of Walker; two daughters: Pam (Craig) Forrest of Kentwood and Tam (Luke) Brooks of Mount Hermon; nine grandchildren: Trent (Macy) Forrest; Traci (Ryan) Jennings; Wendy Brooks, Haylee Brooks; Brady Cook; Laken Cook, Callie Cook; Katelyn Cook and Ashlyn Cook; two great-grandchildren: Connor Forrest; Parker Jennings; and one sister, Katie Merle Brown of White Oaks, Miss.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Daniel Roy and Lula Nichols Cook; a sister, Christine King and two brothers, Sam Cook and Clarence Cook.

Visitation was at Crain Funeral Home from 5 p.m. until 9 p.m. on Tuesday, April 14, continuing on Wednesday from 9 a.m. until time for the funeral service at 11 a.m. in the funeral home chapel. Rev. Ed Jenkins will officiate, with burial to follow in the Mount Pisgah Baptist Church Cemetery.

    " On behalf of my mother, Ms. Sadie Falterman's & daughter, the Lewis's family, we want to express our prayers for the Cook Family. We are truely sorry for your lost. He has been a great coach and we were happy to know him. My daughter, Liz Knight, now Lewis, at the time went to Mt. Hermon School in Kindergaten & Eighth Grade back in the 70's. She now live in the house Mr. Cook build.
