A bail bond agent who worked in the Washington Parish area was arrested in Franklinton earlier this week on embezzlement-related charges, but she maintains information in the case was fabricated due to a personal vendetta.

Linda G. Ammons, 44, of Sun, was arrested by Louisiana State Police officials who had been investigating the case with the Louisiana Department of Insurance.

A licensed bail bondsman, Ammons was issued a cease and desist order, license revocation and fine notice for alleged misappropriation of premiums, according to the Louisiana Department of Insurance. She was booked into the Washington Parish Jail on Tuesday, but later released.

She was also served by Department of Insurance Fraud Section Investigators with a $3,100 fine notice for allegedly failing to remit premiums to the insurance company on multiple occasions, the insurance department stated in a press release. “She is also alleged to have charged a defendant the face value of a bond with the addition of court fees, which exceeded the amount of premium to be charged for such a bail bond. She allegedly did not remit these monies to the company but converted it to her own use. The total amount of misappropriated funds is $5,311.20.”

However, Ammons said Thursday that all the wrongdoing she is accused of is based on lies by her former employer at Outlaw Bail Bonds.

“They are doing it for personal reasons. They are doing it to get back at me,” said Ammons, who added she has no reason to steal from anybody.

Ammons said she was “in and out of jail in 15 minutes” and is appealing the criminal charges as well as civil charges against her filed by Outlaw. She said she feels confident her bail bond license will be reissued in 30 days, and all the charges will be found to be falsely filed. “I will prove it in court,” she said.

Ammons is still employed at AAA Bail Bonds in Franklinton, where she has done a good job since she began working there several months ago, a representative of the company said. While she cannot currently issue any bail bonds, she is expected to resume her duties once her license is reinstated, according to AAA.

An official with Outlaw Bail Bonds, which serves Washington Parish and the outlying areas, did not wish to go into detail about the case. But the person did say they would not rehire Ammons, who worked for the company from November 2007 through July 2008.

State records show that Ammons was issued a bail bond license in November 2007, which was valid until her arrest on Tuesday.

Louisiana State Police did not return calls for this story.

“People need to know the facts,” Ammons said, maintaining her innocence.
