Bogalusa City Hall will be a busy place starting at about 5 p.m. Tuesday, and those who intend to assemble out front aren’t exactly planning a party for city officials. They’re planning a protest of the status quo. And there’s not just one group involved. There’s two.

The Bogalusa Concerned Citizens, a grass-roots group of local citizens, have planned a protest march at the same time and place that Bogalusa Police Department union members have scheduled the first of four “Informational Picket” days (see story above.)

The BCC wants to let the administration and the council know that the people of the city are unhappy with the current management, said Linda Kennett, spokesperson.

The group has talked of initiating a recall of various officials, both in the administration and on the city council. And it wants to “repeal the recent sewer rate increase and the franchise tax.”

Members have addressed issues before the council and they urge others to get involved.

“We’re trying to ask Bogalusa citizens to become active in the community,” said Kennett. “For too long there have not been enough people active. We need to stand up and make our voices known. Enough is enough. If you are dissatisfied, stand up.”

The BCC will provide water for participants, and all are advised to bring umbrellas for shade, said Kennett.

" You should really think before you type. The Mill brings in lots of tax dollars for our parish and our city. Now where those tax dollars are going in Bogalusa, well we just have no idea. You may want cleaner air but I doubt you're going to find it anywhere anymore. There is pollution everywhere if you didn't notice. After the mill goes do you want us to stop driving to help clean the air even more for you? Leave your # so I can call you for a ride. "

" WHO are you? Do you not know that this town was built by that papermill? Without it Bogalusa would be nothing! It provides the majority of Bog's tax base, it supports local schools and charities, more than any other company.

Bogalusa would be no more than a charity hospital and a few housing projects without the mill to support it and its citizens. "

" Bogalusa is like the rest of the gov't in this country, overextended and overtaxing people, with many workers who half-way do everything. We have higher sales taxes than most places... this small city needs LESS city workers, harder working individual and a fiscally minded administration. For instance, how is it that a city worker can retire after 30 years, at the age of 50 something? Most people do not get this sweet of a retirement deal. "

" ... Thank you, Daily News, for publishing all that I have to say about my Bogalusa. Would that MORE people would address our city's needs in a POSITIVE manner. I LOOK AROUND AND SEE OPPORTUNITY! THAT'S RIGHT, OPPORTUNITY FOR POSITIVE CHANGE... Don't tell me what is wrong with Bogalusa, tell me that you CARE ENOUGH to become part of the solution! We have the TALENT to MOVE BOGALUSA FORWARD... If we WANT a better Bogalusa ...! "

" I was happy to see WWL-TV News covering this march on City Hall ... as well as The Daily News! KNOWLEDGE IS POWER! PEOPLE NEED TO KNOW WHAT IS GOING ON (THAT NEEDS TO BE CHANGED) IN BOGALUSA! Bogalusa CAN change for the better if we WANT CHANGE! It is up to US ... VOTE ... GET INVOLVED ... FALL IN LOVE ONCE AGAIN WITH BOGALUSA! DARE TO CARE! ACT! "

" Thank you, one and all, who showed up and protested the "status quo" in City Hall! If ever a city needed BETTER LEADERSHIP, Bogalusa needs it NOW! Our city is being run like General Motors ... which is in bankruptcy ... mis-management abounds! PEOPLE: STAND UP AND DEMAND BETTER FROM CITY HALL! Why were not MORE people concerned enough to join in the protest last evening? This is OUR CITY! "

" It would be a good idea for these citizens to contact all of the local media, and tv stations in this area to cover this march. "
