Julia “Big Mama” Barnes, age 93, died Tuesday, June 23 at Rest Haven Living Center. A long-time resident of Bogalusa, she was born in Silver Creek, Miss. to Ike and Colee Hartwell.

She is survived by one brother, Lester (Willie) Hartwell of Silver Creek; a very devoted grandson, David (Para) Jackson and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great great grandchildren and other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husbands, D. C. Jackson and Tommy Lee Barnes; a son, David Jackson; her parents, Ike and Colee Hartwell; four brothers and five sisters.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, June 28 at Cook-Richmond Funeral Home from 2 p.m. until 6 p.m.

The funeral service will be on Monday at Mt. Zion Baptist Church at 11 a.m. with Rev. Dr. Edward J. Luter officiating. Interment will follow in China Lee Cemetery in Silver Creek.
