“Y’all really surprised me,” said Crowe when he walked upstairs to see 30 or more employees and guests crammed into the hallway next to tables topped with chips, dips and other food.
The sheriff was momentarily speechless, but ended up offering a few words about his time in office. He said he is especially proud of getting the Mt. Hermon substation up and running, hiring on a certfied public accountant (Chief Civil Deputy Mechelle Galloway) and the effort put out by his deputies and employees in the entire department.

But there’s more to be done.
“We’ve got a lot to accomplish, hopefully in the next year,” Crowe said, adding he’s working on setting up substations in Isabel and Angie.
Chief Deputy Scott Blair also spoke during the event, and said WPSO has done an excellent job of cracking down on crime.
“It’s been a phenomenal year, I’m really proud to be part of this administration,” he said, adding the instillation of a street crimes unit has been a big plus for the department.
Guests including Parish President Richard Thomas, Clerk of Courts Johnny Crain and other dignitaries.
“It’s been a privilege working with you for the past year,” Thomas told Crowe.
Since Crowe took over the department on July 1, 2008, there’s been marked improvement in several areas, WPSO officials said
In the past year, there have been 33 DWI arrests, compared with 15 the year before, said Deputy Chief Shannon Lyons.
From July 1, 2008 through July 1, 2009, there were 158 drug arrests, compared to 85 the previous year, he said.
Traffic offenses have also risen since Crowe took over, Lyons said. There were 1,024 this year, and 445 the year before.
