As the Magic City prepares to turn 95 years old, we offer this poem, written several years ago by Amy Breland Williams:
Where majestic pine trees stand in glory,

In the Pearl River Valley where the Choctaw once roamed,
On the banks of the Bogue Lusa Creek.
Bogalusa, Louisiana,
Where the Great Southern Lumber Company would give rise,
To this place called the “Magic City,”
For overnight it grew in wealth and size,
Where paper became its claim to fame,
Gaylord and Crown Zellerbach were king,
“The Largest paper mill in the world,”
With Pride, its praises all would sing.
Bogalusa, “the Green Empire,”
Where dogwood blossoms blanket the sky,
And the Lumberjacks play on Friday nights,
Where we parade on the Fourth of July.
Where deep in the woods at Studio in the Country,
Beautiful music is played,
And the Bogalusa Heart Study began its quest,
What a difference their research has made.
Where the Krewe of MCCA sparkles and rolls,
From Columbia Street to Avenue B,
And where the Christmas lights in Cassidy Park,
Are lit for all to see.
Bogalusa, my home sweet home,
A place where family and friends never part,
Whether here or whether there,
Bogalusa will always be in my heart.

" It is a shame that this is no longer true. The people in Bogalusa did not appreciate the treasure they had. I wonder what the people who worked so hard to make this lovely town would think today. Shame on you leders and good people of Bogalusa! "" AMEN!
All the more reason to cause Bogalusa to be REBORN! "She" needs a new beginning! "
