A Fourth of July weekend softball game at the Davis Street Playground Sunday evening ended up with two people in the emergency room with gunshot wounds, according to the Bogalusa Police Department.

The BPD got a call about a fight and possible shots fired at the park at 6:41 p.m., said Capt. Joe Culpepper. When officers arrived on the scene, they found two people had been shot. Both had moderate injuries, he said.

Upon investigation, officers determined that a fight had broken out in the crowd and evolved into a shooting, said Cupepper. The weapon was a .22 caliber pistol, he said.

Emerson Dale Johnson III, 17, of Bogalusa, was arrested within hours and charged with two counts of attempted second degree murder, said Culpepper.

The victims, both from Angie, were treated for moderate injuries at LSU Bogalusa Medical Center and released, he said.

While detectives were searching the area of the shooting, they found shell casings from an assault rifle, said Culpepper.

“They are unrelated as far as we can tell,” he said.

" ... there are always "knuckle heads" at parade events! This is sad and so stupid! Thank you, Bogalusa Police for making this arrest. Why does ANYBODY take a gun to a 4th of July Parade? C'mon, folks... NIX the guns ... ENJOY the parade but BEHAVE YOURSELVES! Parents ... do your kids carry guns? YOU have a responsibility to keep your kids in tow. GUNS KILL! ... KIDS: find something constructive to do! "
