Walter J. Hammons Walter J. Hammons, 80, passed away on Tuesday, July 14 after a lengthy battle with Lou Gehrig Disease. He died at home among family members. He was a retired member of the International Association of Bridge Structural and ornamental Ironworkers and a member of the Square and Compass Lodge 417 in Kenner. He is survived by his wife, Betty Jean Stogner Hammons; Two stepsons: Douglas Stafford Lee and H. D. (Pug) Stafford and wife, June, of Bogalusa; four daughters: Dolly (Richard) Horner of Wiggins, Miss., Laurene Ann (Daryle) Brady of Reserve, Tammy Lynn (Andy) Authement of Denham Springs and Patricia Hammons (Troy) Billings of LaPlace; one brother, W. D. Hammons of Baton Rouge; two nephews, Danny Hammons of Baton Rouge and Robert (Gwen) Hammons of Clinton; two nieces: Penny (Bobby) Magee of Baker and Connie Daws of Miss.; grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, W. D. Hammons and Rita Pounder Hammons, two sons, Anthony (Tony) Hammons and Walter Hammons, and a sister, Patricia Aultman. Visitation was held on Wednesday at Brown-McGehee Funeral Home from 5 p.m. until 10 p.m. and continued on Thursday from 9 a.m. until time for the funeral service at 1 p.m. with Rev. David Easterling officiating. Burial was in Ponemah Cemetery. |
