Benton Glyn Breland

Benton Glyn Breland, 73, died at 6:45 p.m. Wednesday, July 22 at St. Tammany Parish Hospital. He was a resident of the State Line Community.

He was a U. S. Army veteran of the Korean War and a retired machine operator for Gaylord. He was also a member of the Pine Masonic Lodge, the Board of Directors of Riverside Medical Center, a lifelong member of Stateline Missionary Baptist Church and a deacon for 28 years, also serving a long time as treasurer. He enjoyed gardening and traveling, particularly to his favorite vacation spot in the Great Smoky Mountains. Mr. Breland was a loving husband and devoted father and grandfather.

He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Hilda McKenzie Breland of State Line Community; two daughters: Kathy (James) Daniel of Pine and Kerry (Larry) Sorrell of Dexter, Miss.; four grandchildren: Chris (Michelle) Daniel, Emily (Jeff) Jarvis, Nic (Misty) Sorrell and Chase Sorrell; four great-grandchildren: Hannah Sorrell, Lanie Sorrell, Jackson Jarvis, Joseph Daniel; two sisters: Jeanette (Huey) Thompson of Pine and Annette (Levoe) Ireland of Bastrop; brother-in-law and sister-in-law: Leston and Elsie McKenzie of Sheridan; sisters-in-law: Ava Breland and Mary Rose Breland, and numerous nieces, nephews and other family members.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Herman Breland and Ada Merle Kennedy Breland; two brothers, Lavelle Breland and Donald Wayne Breland.

Visitation will be at Crain Funeral Home on Friday, July 24 from 5 p.m. until 9 p.m. A Masonic service will be held Friday at 7 p.m. Visitation will continue after 9 a.m. on Saturday at Stateline Missionary Baptist Church, with a funeral service to be held at 2 p.m. at the church, with Eld. Billy Mac Lowery, Eld. Carl Dickens, Eld. Bill Ray Hines, Eld. Brent King and Rev. Lonnie Thompson officiating. Burial will follow in the Crain Cemetery at State Line.

Pallbearers are Nic Sorrell, Chase Sorrell, Jason McKenzie, Greg Thomas, Tracey Thomas, Stephen McKenzie, Greg McKenzie, Steve Breland Honorary pallbearers are Richard Kennedy, Wayne Crain, John Fortenberry, Conrad Flowers and the Board Members of Riverside Medical Center.
