Edward D. (Ed) Holcombe

Edward D. (Ed) Holcombe, age 83, died Sunday, Aug. 16, 2009 at a nursing home in Belton, Texas. He was a resident of Temple, Texas.

Born Nov. 20, 1925 in Bogalusa, he received a Bachelor of Science degree in forestry from LSU. He was a veteran of the U. S. Navy during WWII. He married Carol Morgan on June 27, 1958 in Denham Springs. He retired in 1990 after 43 years with the USDA Soil Conservation Service. A resident of Temple since 1971, he had also resided in Alexandria and De Ridder in Louisiana and Lake City, Fla. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Temple where he was a deacon and taught the Singles Class. He also sang in the sanctuary choir and volunteered with CTLC. He was a member of American Legion Post 133, NARFE and Xi Sigma Pi professional forestry fraternity.

Survivors include his wife, Carol Morgan Holcombe of Temple; two sons, James E. (Lisa) Holcombe of Baton Rouge and Robert E. (Gloria) Holcombe of Manhattan, Kan.: two daughters, Nancy H. Wilson of Austin and Kelly H. (Bryan) Denman of Houston. Also surviving are seven grandchildren: Gabe Holcombe of Chicago, Aaron Holcombe of Baton Rouge, Travis Denman, Sydney Denman and Abigail Denman, all of Houston and Lydia Wilson and Brooke Wilson, both of Austin; one brother, Austin (Georgine) Holcombe Jr. of Bogalusa and a former son-in-law, Steve Wilson of Austin.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Everett A. and Viola (Dickey) Holcombe

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 19 at First Baptist Church in Temple, with Dr. Martin Knox and Rev. Doug Young officiating. Burial will be private.
