Aaron Lewis has a new gig. And he’s looking for folks like you to “Speak On It” … so to speak.

Lewis, who grew up in Varnado, now resides in Los Angeles, where he has been for the past five years pursuing an acting career. He’s appeared in the soap opera “The Young and the Restless” a few times, as well as some movies and other TV shows.

But now, the 32-year-old is trying to launch his own show — “Speak On It,” which he describes as a mix of stand-up comedy, talk, reality and variety shows.

The show features the talents of lesser-known comedians, musicians and other performers, and then gets opinions on the acts from the live audience.

“The people perform and then the audience gets a chance to speak on it,” which is how the show gets its name, said Lewis, who was back home last week to attend a Varnado High School reunion.

Lewis is the show’s creator, executive producer and host. He has shot one episode, and is in the process of shopping it around to various networks, some of which have shown an interest, Lewis said.

He expects to shoot another episode in October, and with luck, it could begin to air regularly sometime early next year.

“Speak On It” episodes will last one hour and be shot in various lounges across the country, showcasing local talent at each venue, Lewis said.

Lewis said he has also done stand-up, and that’s how he got the idea for the show.

“I wanted to create an atmosphere for comedians to show their talent to the world,” he said.

Part of the show involves the contact information for the artist performing his or her talent popping up on the bottom of the screen during each act. That way, talent producers can contact the person if they like what they see or hear from the audience members. As the show develops, Lewis said he will be looking to get input on the show’s performers via phone or text message.

And Lewis isn’t limiting the show to just comedians or musicians; he’s looking for dancers, poets and anything else that people may have a talent for. Aspiring models are also among the talents, and help Lewis to conduct interviews during show.

“This show is the voice of the people,” Lewis said.

Lewis said he has gotten good feedback from people who have seen the first episode. A preview of the first episode is available to watch online at Youtube.com with a search of “SpeakOnIt.”
