Friday, Sept. 4 marked a milestone at LSU Bogalusa Medical Center.

The hospital’s Special Beginnings Family Center, or maternity ward, delivered its 100th baby since reopening last year. Before that, it had been 10 years since babies were being regularly born in Washington Parish.

According to Patsy Welch, the nurse supervisor of the Special Beginnings Family Center, the 100th baby — Hudson Isaiah Dagraffenfeid — was born in the new facility at 10:55 a.m. Friday.

Patsy Welch and Amy Lander, mother April Dagraffenreid with newborn son Hudson Isaiah Dagraffenreid (the 100th baby born at LSU Bogalusa Medical Center’s Special Beginnings Family Center) and Dr. Ronald McLendon are seen not long after the infant’s birth.

Helping mother April Dagraffenreid  with the delivery were nurses Patsy Welch and Amy Lander and Dr. Ronald McLendon, who posed for a photo with mother and child following the birth.

Mother and baby are doing fine, the hospital reported.

" The first maternity unit at Boglusa Medical Center, after it succeeded the Elizabeth Sullivan Memorial Medical Center, opened on October 5, 1962 with the birth of our son, Robert III, known as "Bert". Dr. Glenn Waldrop said they had to take plastic wraps off some of the permanent equipment. Baby Bert went on to win the better baby contest at the 50th anniversary Washington Parish Fair in 1963. Bert died after a bicycle accident, but left wonderful twins sons who continue to bless us and our family. May God bless the LSU Bogalusa Medical Center. "

" ... How time flies! I presented the FIRST baby born in this new birthing unit with his first BIBLE, one year ago! A baby boy ... I remember well that baby boy sleeping so peacefully in his blue blanket, as his mother looked at him lovingly!

... my congratulations to this 100th baby born here!

... such a fine facility! Something Bogalusa can be proud of! "
