Wednesday Chat: Picasso McGowan, Varnado High School senior

Picasso McGowan is a senior offensive/defensive lineman at Varnado High School. He also plays fullback at times.

Q: What do you enjoy most about football?

A:Contact. I love the adrenaline.

Q: What do you like best about being a student athlete?

A: I like the respect and love. I get love from everybody and the respect I get from teammates.

Q: What’s your favorite moment or memory from your football career?

A: I scored my first touchdown last year against Southern Lab. I scored three touchdowns last year playing fullback.

Q: Who has been the most influential person in your sports career? Why?

A: My uncle Fred. He’s always been there to teach me stuff. Q: And did he play football? A: He played at Varnado.

Q: What can you do better than anyone else on the team?

A: I like to make people laugh by talking crazy.

Q: Who is your favorite professional athlete?

A:Ladainian Tomlinson, (San Diego Chargers running back). He’s got the moves. I love the way he moves.

Q: Who are your favorite teams? A: The Chargers! And for college, Penn State. Q: Why Penn State? A:I love the coach there and their offense.

Q: What is your favorite subject in school?

A: Math. It just comes to me. I love the numbers. The numbers come easy to me.

 Q:Least favorite?            

A: Reading or English. I’m not too good at any of that.

Q: What do you plan to do after high school?

A: Well, I hope to get in community college. If that doesn’t work out, though, I hope to get a good job and help my family.

Q: What type of job would you want?

A: I don’t know. Maybe with F.L. Crane like my stepdad. I have a little experience working with them in the summers. Q: Experience doing what? A: I mixed mud, took measurements and did cuts and stuff. Cleaned up. (The other workers) called me the yard boy.

Q: What’s your favorite food?            

A: Hamburger Helper, creamed corn, and fried chicken.

Q: If you won the lottery, what would you do with the money?

A: I’d invest it. Q: In what? A: Toilet tissue. Everybody needs toilet tissue.

Q: What’s your favorite place for a vacation? Why?

A: One summer we went to Oakland with my mom and stepdad. It’s fast out there. Fast and beautiful. There’s a lot more to do.

Q: And what were you doing in Oakland? A: My stepdad had a family reunion out there.

Q: What’s the best thing about living in Washington Parish?

A: I like the people around here and I’m comfortable with everyone.

Q: What do you like to do in your spare time?

A: Watch TV, listen to music. Sometimes when I get bored I just like to walk around town.

Q:What’s your favorite TV show?

A: Saved by the Bell. I watch it every morning.

Q: And favorite type of music? A: I like all the music. Slow music, rap music. Q: What about an artist? A:Young Jeezy

Q: Who are your parents, where do they live and what do they do?

A: I live in Angie with my mom Andrea and stepdad Joel Dawson. My dad is Brian Mingo.

My stepdad works for F.L. Crane construction and my mom works in Covington at Christwood.

Q: Is there anything I didn’t ask about that you want to share?

A: (About last Friday’s 59-12 loss to Franklinton) I had a bad game Friday, but I’m going to make it up this Friday (against Independence) I promise.
