Born Jan. 13, 1947, he was a marine advisory agent with the Louisiana Cooperative Extension Service through LSU for 24 years. He served as 2nd Lt. in the U.S. Air Force and earned a Masters of Science degree in Zoology from Southeastern Louisiana University.
He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Virginia “Ginger” Baham Corkern of Franklinton; two daughters: Beth Corkern (Matthew) Fontenot and Sarah Corkern, both of Austin, Texas; son, Tim Corkern of Baton Rouge; granddaughter, Madelynne Fontenot; father, Daniel E. Corkern of Sheridan; three sisters: Dale (Phil) Bowman of St. Amant, Karen (Johnny) Hobgood and Susan (Walter) O’Bryant, both of Sheridan; brother, Mark (Nancy) Corkern of Sheridan.

Visitation was held on Tuesday, Sept. 22 at Crain Funeral Home from 5 p.m. until 9 p.m., with a Masonic service at 7 p.m. Visitation continued on Wednesday from 9 a.m. until time for the funeral service at 11 a.m. in the funeral home chapel, with Rev. Deacon Milton Gibson officiating. Burial will follow in the Smith Cemetery on Hwy 439. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Pine Masonic Lodge 264, Brian Luper, 23271 McCain Road, Franklinton 70438.
