Nearly 3,000 people have outstanding charges and accompanying attachments with the Bogalusa Police Department, and over the next two months, they’ll have a chance to take care of business at a discounted rate.

The BPD, offices of Bogalusa City Court, the city prosecutor and city marshal have announced amnesty dates during which the fines and costs on the outstanding attachments will be waived if the proper procedures are followed.

The attachments are for things like failure to appear in court, failure to pay fines and failure to do community service. The fines and costs normally add up to $226 per attachment.

An alphabetized list of people with BPD attachments begins on page 9A of the Wednesday newspaper.

Those on the list are advised not to call the police or city court, but to come to the police department, 214 Arkansas Ave., during one of the following time frames:

Oct. 6 to 9 — 2 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Oct. 10 — 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Nov. 3 to 6 — 2 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Nov. 7 — 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.

" Oh I read it correctly "...dates during which the fines and costs on the outstanding attachments will be WAIVED if the proper procedures are followed". Barbara, what you are stating is not in this ONLINE article. John, for you to go to jail over one ticket is a bit unbeliveable. I've had a ticket that I did not pay on time due to kids/bills and I wasn't arrested. It takes months or longer for that to happen to include a license being suspended/revoked first. "

" Hey-- if you can't afford to pay the ticket, why not simply obey the speed limits ??? Blaming others for your woes is why the city and country are in the shameful state they are in "

" It's not that they are getting away with anything! I f you read the article clearly it states that there have been mistakes in entering names as well as those that just didn't pay. They still have to pay just not arrested. I myself know someone that tried for months to pay a traffic ticket that wasn't in the system. Now their name spelled incorrectly I might add is on this list! Let's get our facts straight before we get our underwear in a wad. "

" It's not fair to say they are getting of scot free. Alot of people have kids and can't afford to pay a trafic fine on the due date. So not there is a attchment on them, so thats more money to spend. I have gotten ticketd that I couldn't pay for it time. Because of that, I went to jail and lost my job. Over a 10 mile per hour speeding ticket. How is that fair. No one needs to get off scot free, but so many are living check to check and need that help. "

" Are you kidding me? The of Bogalusa is going down hill fast and in financial ruins. You mean to tell me that instead of having those that owe for fines actually PAY, they are given the chance to get off scott free? This must be make believe. All I keep reading about in the paper is how the city can't afford this, that or the other. Bogalusa will never grow being operated in this manner. "
