Updated 11:04 a.m.:Man shot, killed in Bogalusa BY MARCELLE HANEMANNThe Daily News A Bogalusa man died in a hail of bullets outside a residence on E. 8th Street Wednesday evening, according to Bogalusa Police Department spokesperson Capt. Joe Culpepper. The BPD responded to a “shots fired” call at about 5:15 p.m. and when officers arrived on the scene they found Keith Magee, 35, unknown Bogalusa address, lying on the ground with multiple gunshot wounds, he said. The victim was transported to LSU Bogalusa Medical Center where he was pronounced dead. An investigation by BPD detectives and shift personnel quickly led to a suspect, said Culpepper. “We were able to develop information that lead to a us obtaining a warrant for Donald Sampson Jr., 35, for second degree murder and convicted felon in possession of a firearm charges. “There were folks outside the residence cooking. It appears the two were having an argument and it turned deadly.” Sampson is reportedly also a Bogalusa resident with an unknown address. While police were looking for him, they came across a man known to be his close friend, said Culpepper. “Officers saw Thomas ‘Eyes’ Turner, who is a cohort of Sampson’s, driving down the street,” he said. “They went to stop him to see if Sampson was with him or if he knew his whereabouts, and he took off down Columbia Street and crashed into a light pole.” No one was injured in the crash, according to the BPD. Turner was found to be in possession of marijuana, said Culpepper. He was charged with obstruction of justice, aggravated obstruction of a roadway, aggravated flight from an officer, reckless operation of a motor vehicle, driving while license was suspended, speeding and second offense possession of marijuana. Sampson was expected to turn himself in Friday, but there were also rumors he had fled the state.
