A Bogalusa man died in a hail of bullets outside a residence on E. 8th Street Wednesday evening, according to Bogalusa Police Department spokesperson Capt. Joe Culpepper.

The BPD responded to a “shots fired” call at about 5:15 p.m. and when officers arrived on the scene they found Keith Magee, 35, unknown Bogalusa address, lying on the ground with multiple gunshot wounds, he said.

The victim was transported to LSU Bogalusa Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.

An investigation by BPD detectives and shift personnel quickly led to a suspect, said Culpepper.

“We were able to develop information that lead to a us obtaining a warrant for Donald Sampson Jr., 35, for second degree murder and convicted felon in possession of a firearm charges.

“There were folks outside the residence cooking. It appears the two were having an argument and it turned deadly.”

Sampson is reportedly also a Bogalusa resident with an unknown address.

While police were looking for him, they came across a man known to be his close friend, said Culpepper.

“Officers saw Thomas ‘Eyes’ Turner, who is a cohort of Sampson’s, driving down the street,” he said. “They went to stop him to see if Sampson was with him or if he knew his whereabouts, and he took off down Columbia Street and crashed into a light pole.”

No one was injured in the crash, according to the BPD.

Turner was found to be in possession of marijuana, said Culpepper. He was charged with

obstruction of justice, aggravated obstruction of a roadway, aggravated flight from an officer, reckless operation of a motor vehicle, driving while license was suspended, speeding and second offense possession of marijuana.

Sampson was expected to turn himself in Friday, but there were also rumors he had fled the state. Anyone with information on his whereabouts is urged to call the BPD at

any time at 732-BUST or 732-3611, or at 732-6238 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday. Callers may remain anonymous.

PARENTS: Bring up your children in the fear and knowledge of Jesus, our Lord and Savior.

KNOW where your children are and WHO they are "hanging" out with!

Bogalusa is basically a Christian community, get your kids involved in wholesome church activities. YOUTH ACTIVITIES AT YOUR CHURCH!

THEN, they will be less likely to get involved with drugs and other crimes.

IT ALL BEGINS WITH YOU, PARENTS! "

If he would have been stopped when they first spotted the car this would not have happened but they let him pull off from where he was spotted. i am like keep it 100 if you don't know what you are talking about shut up "

He is a victim in all of this also.We all need to pray keep our young men walking in Gods path and we would not have to worry about things like this happening to them.To the Sampson and Magee family may God be with you all. Keep your faith and believe in our mighty God he is going to take care of you and your children. May God Bless All of You. "

But we are missing the point he was protecting himself!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! We miss u a bunch.God loves you....... do not forget that you are a child of God and he is going to take care of you "

" As I continue, and where have our unity gone? Black citizens of Bog. think about what all the ancestors fought for (hung on trees, houses burned, and marches that took place) to allow the next generation to bring the black citizens of Bog to another positive level. Their hard work should not be a "slap in the face" by the hands of our own!!! I also grieve when I read one believes that one deserve to die or they had it coming. Disputes can be resolved but the dead can not be "resurrected" by anyone in this life. "

You never know who will read your comments, near and far. Especially when relatives from both sides pick up the paper and read such bickering and hatred that lies amongst us as black people and between us as black and white people. It is really really sad!!!! I can agree with a couple of the writers, its not a "racial thing" it is a "moral" thing. Where have our tolerance went? "

" okay people lets be real with each other. It probably was drug related and that's one of many issues in Bog. Black or white it's a real problem. And as for it being the neighborhood, the entire city of bogalusa is all the same. I haven't lived there in 9 years but I think the whole city needs help. And I truly don't feel sorry for them. When u live that life you'll end up either dead or in jail. If not you're just blessed. It's all about choices, make good ones. The entire town needs to work together. "

Drugs have been in that area of town for years. Shootings have occurred in that same part of time. Gang activity...it is the neightborhood. There is always some good people in every area of town. IT IS NOT A RACIAL ISSUE...IT'S A MORAL ISSUE. "

It's a perfectly legal tactic!! In fact, it's used all over the United States. You think that's bad try Germany or some other foreign countries (His name would have been in the Obituaries. THEY USE LEATHAL FORCE TO STOP CROOKS)!

" There is two sides to every story. Me knowing both the victim and the suspect and watching both of them grow up, I feel the pain and lost from both families. Now as for all of the ignorant post and people taking sides or stating look at the neighborhood, this is our home, our city, and our kids who are dying for no reason. When will it all end? There is definitely a time for a change in Bogalusa and it should start at the head and trickle down!!!! How about look at the government; Mayor, Police Chief, Council, Schools "

" Kudos to the guys/gals in blue. It may seem they are taking their time (for a good reason) on the drug problem but they are full steam ahead with the investigations and arrest with killings and other major crimes in the city in the past few years. Looks like the BPD are stepping up a few notches due to certain ole timers on their way out. It's time to be pro-active again. Keep it up guys, that badge is starting to shine again. Change is in the wind. "

They, (The Police) we're trying to get some answers / leads to the shooters where about. As far as him not being involved?
