A native of Bogalusa, he moved to Alabama in 1962 and was a resident of Talladega from 1971 until his passing. Dr. Fendlasen graduated from Bogalusa High School, earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Music from Southeastern Louisiana University, a Master in Business Administration degree from Louisiana State University and a Doctor of Education degree from the University of Alabama.
He was a band director in his early career, organizing three high school bands in Louisiana. He also served as a social worker in Louisiana. Later, he taught on the post-secondary level at Jacksonville State University, Gadsden State Community College and Central Alabama Community College. He was also in charge of federal projects at what was then Livingston University (now the University of West Alabama) and he worked for the Louisiana State Department of Education in Baton Rouge. Dr. Fendlason concluded his career with the Governor’s Education Reform Commission in the State of Alabama.

He is survived by his wife of nearly 47 years, Sybil Noel Fendlason, and his son, Noel Fendlason of Birmingham, Ala., as well as several nieces and nephews.
Visitation was on Saturday, Oct. 10 at Usrey-Brown Funeral Home from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.
Funeral services were held at First United Methodist Church in Talladega on Sunday, Oct. 11 at 2 p.m., with Rev. Ted Peterson and Dr. George Ricker officiating. Burial followed at Oak Hill Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Bill Noel, Joe Hare, Ronnie Busby, Ricky Armstrong, Thomas “Buddy” Tramell and Zachary Harrison.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to First Baptist Church and First United Methodist Church of Talladega and Lakeside Hospice.
