Bogalusa Police officers who were responding to a request for a welfare check on a woman last week found a “brutally beaten” woman in a Royal Street residence that was reportedly bloody throughout. A baby was also found in the house and was taken into Office of Community Services custody, according to a BPD spokesman.

Capt. Joe Culpepper said a call came in at approximately 8:30 p.m. last Monday that a woman was being held against her will and was being beaten by her boyfriend.

When responding officers arrived at the scene and knocked on the door, nobody answered, but they heard a disturbance inside, so they broke down the door, he said.

“When they got inside, they found a young female under a mattress bleeding profusely from numerous wounds to her face, eyes, ears, back…,” said Culpepper. “She was brutally beaten. They also found a 3-month-old child, which was taken into OCS custody.’

One veteran officer described the beating as the worst he’d ever seen.

The victim was taken to the hospital and released Friday.

Hendrick Rashard Myers, 28, 1007 S. Royal, was charged with aggravated second degree battery and second degree kidnapping. A conviction for the first charge carries up to 15 years in prison, and the second carries five to 40 years, according to Culpepper.

" nobdy knows the circumstances in this case all I can say is if he hits you once you better get as far away as possible some people find themselves stuck well they think they are stuck and there is no way out but as long as you breathe there is a way out because you always have a choice. This is really sad and the saddest part is that their was a baby involved. Protect your kids ladies no matter what. Get well to baby and the victim "

" No can judge this younglady. No one knows what goes on behind closed doors. People are so fast to assume and talk but it, but who is there to help when woman are being victims it so easy to tell her to leave, but who is going to be there to let her know she is strong enough and let her know that she has a support system when she tries to walk away and start her and her childs life over. Please understand that sometime these things are cycles it starts in the home growing up. We have to show our children what it means to love and think with our mind but our hearts. Hurting each other not only hurt physically but mentally, emotionally, and spirtually. It takes time to heal and when children are involved it takes alot more work. Instead of passing judgement Bogalusa needs to embrace this young woman and her child and let her know that she has help and that she is loved. Time heals all wounds but when you have someone there to love and walk with when times are ruff it HELPS...

I still deal with some of the issues from the abuse and i'm married to a wonderful man now. there's a long road ahead for this young lady a she really needs support and positive vibes. and as far as Bogalusa being the problem, I think the people make the town the town doesn't make the people. I grew up there and i had a great childhood. the people just need to get back to basics and don't let the temptations of this world change what you know in your heart is right. Blessings and Love. "
