Dozens of Bogalusa area residents stood in line Tuesday for a shot at getting a job at the new McDonald’s in Bogalusa.

The fast-food restaurant is expected to open on Dec. 18, and officials are looking to hire 70 employees, said Alan Galdamez, the restaurant’s director of operations.

On Tuesday, McDonald’s officials were taking applications, and doing first-round interviews. The hiring process will take place the next four weeks, Galdamez said.

Bogalusa residents, from left, Joseph Roach, Toria Lucas, Velecia Young, Malik Patterson, Deneen Matthews and Shawanday Roberts are seen at the application table outside the new McDonald’s in Bogalusa Tuesday.

Starting wage for new employees is $7.50, which is 25 cents above minimum wage, he added.

The new restaurant will house a McCafe for coffee drinkers and TVs broadcasting cable news. The drive-thru will be open 24 hours, officials said.

Galdamez said problems that plagued Bogalusa’s former McDonald’s, which closed down years ago, won’t exist at the new one.

“This will be well-run,” he said.

" Sure hope they train these people to have some manners. Most all the fast food places in Bogalusa have people who are rude and do not know how to deal with the public. "

" Yeah just about all of the fast food places have rude people. I know its not the best job, but dealing with the public, you have to be friendly! Being rude just runs off customers! You know, all these problems, put a reflection on the type of people that live in Bogalusa! It once was a good town! Now it looks like a rundown town. And the people are in denial about it coming back to life. The people make this town bad! "

" Bogalusa is just like the US in general. Once a large enough portion of the population that is getting the handouts and living off of some sort of government living or supported by tax money they dont care and become lazy, which breeds lazy generations to come. I don't blame only the people taking government handouts because alot of wealthy people got that way by abusing the same programs. The people getting the handouts start out numbering (voting) for people that want to keep the people lazy. That is the problems with Bogalusa and the U.S. in general. "

Northside Tech Middle School holds fundraiser at Sonic

From 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 15, the faculty and staff of Northside Tech Middle School were “car-hopping” in exchange for tip money for the school. Student council members painted faces for $1. April Nobles, principal, said, “I think it was a truly unique event and I thank Sonic for giving us the opportunity. We raised over $700 in three hours! $220 of that money was raised from pie throwing.” Students were given the opportunity to throw a pie in the face of a staff member for $20.
