Hurricane Ida? Hardly.

Ida, which did hit Category 2 status at one point, made landfall early Tuesday morning, but caused no damage in Washington Parish, officials said.

“It turned out to be a non-event,” said Phil Grigsby, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service.

Grigsby said Washington Parish received no rain from the event; however, some rain was reported in nearby Crossroads, Miss. Winds in the parish probably reached 30 to 35 mph, he said.

In Bogalusa, city workers prepared for the storm by filling 500 sandbags and clearing out ditches. But aside from a few small branches falling to the ground, no damage was reported.

“We didn’t have the first drop of rain,” said James Hall, director of Bogalusa Public Works. “We fared extremely well.”

In Franklinton, Public Works Director Reginald McMasters said his department has not received any reports of damage.

Grigsby said Tropical Storm Ida made landfall near Mobile, Ala., about 6 a.m. Tuesday with 45 mph winds.

Northside Tech Middle School holds fundraiser at Sonic

From 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 15, the faculty and staff of Northside Tech Middle School were “car-hopping” in exchange for tip money for the school. Student council members painted faces for $1. April Nobles, principal, said, “I think it was a truly unique event and I thank Sonic for giving us the opportunity. We raised over $700 in three hours! $220 of that money was raised from pie throwing.” Students were given the opportunity to throw a pie in the face of a staff member for $20.
