The Louisiana High School Athletics Association has released its playoff brackets and Bogalusa, Franklinton and Varnado are each part of the action.

Franklinton, after completing the regular season a perfect 10-0, earned 4A’s top seed and will host St. Michael (6-4, 5-2 in district 7-4A) on Friday.

Varnado also earned a home game in round one. The Wildcats, seeded No. 15 in 1A, will face No. 18 Catholic of Point Coupee (6-4, 3-1 in district 5-1A).

Bogalusa, which snuck into the playoffs on the strength of a final-week win over Jewel Sumner, will travel to Monroe to face No. 4 Carroll.

Bowling Green, which kicked off its playoffs last week with a thrilling comeback win over Central Private, will also head to Monroe. The Bucs will square off with 6AA champion River Oaks, which squashed Central Hinds 35-14 last week.

Bowling Green will have its hands full. River Oaks has won each of its last four by 21 points or more and has won nine straight overall.

Bogalusa’s road is no easier — Carroll is 9-1, with the lone loss coming at the hands of 4A’s No. 2 seed, Neville.

Franklinton’s opponent, St. Michael, finished third in a close district race. The Warriors faced Glen Oaks in the final week with each team 5-1 in district and a share of the district title on the line. Glen Oaks won, and moved on to earn the No. 22 seed while St. Michael fell to No. 32.

Varnado enters the playoffs at 5-5, 3-1 in district 6-1A and earned a share of the district championship. Varnado lost the de facto district championship game against Southern Lab, but the Wildcats’ hopes for a title were given new life thanks to Kentwood, who secured a playoff spot by knocking off Lab in the regular-season finale.

Northside Tech Middle School holds fundraiser at Sonic

From 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 15, the faculty and staff of Northside Tech Middle School were “car-hopping” in exchange for tip money for the school. Student council members painted faces for $1. April Nobles, principal, said, “I think it was a truly unique event and I thank Sonic for giving us the opportunity. We raised over $700 in three hours! $220 of that money was raised from pie throwing.” Students were given the opportunity to throw a pie in the face of a staff member for $20.
