There’s a new business in Bogalusa with an unusual name: green goat.

The store, which sells used appliances, furniture, seasonal and other items, opened on Nov. 5 in the Avenue F business district.

“The first week has been fantastic,” said Laura Stewart, who runs green goat with husband Drue McMillan.

The biggest question has been how the store got its name, said Stewart.

“I wanted it to be one that would say it wasn’t a woman’s store or a man’s store — it was for everybody,” said Stewart.

After some prayers, she came up with green goat. “Green” to go along with the recycled nature of the store, and “goat” because it sounded good.

“It’s just a catchy name,” she said, adding it’s quite different than any other store names in the area.

Stewart described the store as a “recycled treasure store.”

Besides refrigerators, TVs, microwaves and home furniture, the store also sells tools, DVDS, books, clothing and other items.

“It’s a good assortment of usable items,” Stewart said.

The store is open three days a week: 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Thursdays and Fridays, and 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturdays.
