‘We salute...’

Each Friday, The Daily News will recognize individuals and businesses in Washington Parish who have gone “above and beyond” in their efforts to make this a better place to live, work, play and raise a family.

We believe that an integral part of a community’s wellbeing is an attitude and arena where people who do good things … who work to improve life for others … who try to make a difference … are recognized and saluted.

Because this is a salute to members of the community of Washington Parish, we solicit your recommendations for groups or individuals to be considered for inclusion.

This week we salute:

•BOGALUSA CITY COUNCIL PRESIDENT WENDY PERRETTE for pushing accountability and fiscal responsibility with her ideas to shrink the city’s budget.

•LINDA MIZELL AND ADAPT INC. for encouraging  tobacco users to try to go 24 hours without using the product, so they might find the determination and strength to quit for good.

•THE BOGALUSA POLICE DEPARTMENT for helping keep traffic moving and citizens safe during the approximately half hour power outage for much of downtown Monday.

•THE NEW ORLEANS SAINTS who are on a roll like this state has never before experienced and who have given Washington Parish residents a lot of reasons to laugh, joke, smile and hope.
