Birdie Fortinberry Ott

Birdie Fortinberry Ott, 89, a resident of Mount Hermon, died at 2 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 18, 2009 at St. Tammany Parish Hospital in Covington.

Born Oct. 20, 1920, she was a member of Mount Hermon Baptist Church and a U.S. Navy veteran of WW II.

She is survived by a daughter, Jean (Phillip) Roberts of Mount Hermon; two sons, Chuck (June) Ott of Denham Springs and Daniel (Margot) Ott of Canyon Lake, Texas; three grandsons: Charles Ott, Chad Ott and James Roberts.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Ott and a grandson, Jase Roberts.

Visitation will be held on Monday, Nov. 23 at Silver Springs Baptist Church from 9 a.m. until time for the funeral service at 10 a.m., with Rev. George Maronge officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Crain Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements

Veterans Day program at Byrd Avenue Elementary

Faculty and students at Byrd Avenue Elementary School in Bogalusa presented a Veterans Day Program Wednesday morning. Veterans who attended were recognized and treated to breakfast following the program.
