Thanksgiving kicks off holiday season Thanksgiving week is finally here. Friends and family and coming to town, others are leaving town. Turkeys, not to mention cakes, pies and assorted sides, are being bought and prepared. The season of football — high school, college and pro — is still in the air. It’s time to count our blessings, and enjoy all that we have. We probably all know someone that will be traveling this week, and it’s always an important reminder to make sure they travel safely. During last year’s Thanksgiving holiday in Louisiana, 17 people were killed and 831 were injured in crashes, according to the Louisiana Highway Safety Commission. The 2008 Thanksgiving holiday ranked second only behind Halloween for the most deaths in crashes during a holiday. Remind your dear ones to drive safely this week. And if someone has been drinking, don’t let them drive. Thanksgiving is about getting together with friends and family. It shouldn’t be ruined by a needless tragedy. Be safe, and we hope you have a wonderful week.
