A teacher’s aide filed suit against the Bogalusa City School Board in 22nd Judicial District Court in late December.

Debbie Underwood, who “suffered an assault and battery by a student who was out of control and fighting,” in January, 2009, according to the suit, claims the school board has refused to pay her the full sick leave she was entitled to after sustaining injuries during the assault.

The suit claims that Underwood is entitled to sick leave without a reduction in pay, and that the board has refused to pay the full amount.

It also says the board should pay attorney’s fees and penalties “as a result of the arbitrary and capricious refusal ...to pay her full benefits.”
