‘We salute...’

Published/Last Modified on Friday, February 5, 2010 9:20 AM CST

Each Friday, The Daily News will recognize individuals and businesses in Washington Parish who have gone “above and beyond” in their efforts to make this a better place to live, work, play and raise a family.

We believe that an integral part of a community’s wellbeing is an attitude and arena where people who do good things … who work to improve life for others … who try to make a difference … are recognized and saluted.

Because this is a salute to members of the community of Washington Parish, we solicit your recommendations for groups or individuals to be considered for inclusion.

This week we salute:

• THE NEW ORLEANS SAINTS, who have given the entire region reason to celebrate. We wish them the best of luck in the Super Bowl.

• ORGANIZERS AND PARTICIPANTS of this weekend’s Festival in the Park at Bogalusa’s Cassidy Park, which seems to get better every year. We encourage everyone to come and watch the battles.

• PARISH TAX ASSESSOR RANDY “COUNTRY” SEAL, who stuck to his guns, and didn’t back down from a Florida pipeline company that tried to take an extra $1 million from local taxpayers.

• BOGALUSA STEPHEN PIERCE and others who are using The Daily News’ letter to the editor forum to express new ideas in generating local revenue.

" ... as a concerned citizen who loves Bogalusa and Washington Parish, and who is interested in being part of the solution to our many issues, and who writes numerous positive, and constructive articles in the hopes that in some small way, my comments and ideas might become adopted and help to cause our city and our parish to move forward and prosper, I am curious as to WHY I am never contacted by the various committees and commissions to participate in meetings that might help move Bogalusa forward.

... Is Bogalusa a "closed city"? ... comprised of only a select few elite group of people?

... can there ever be too much positive input from educated, concerned Bogalusa citizens and caring goal-oriented people?

... I am interested in all aspects of life in Bogalusa ... politics, education, law enforcement, business, parks and recreation, the arts, etc.

    What do you think?
