Paul Penton, incumbent councilman from District C and Chairman of the Bogalusa City Council Finance Committee announced his bid for reelection this week.

“I will run on my record and my record shows that I have improved the quality of life in my district,” Penton said. “I have been at the table as difficult decisions have been made regarding the City of Bogalusa and its future.”

During his term in office, Penton has helped rebuild two parks in his district and  transform a former ballpark into an arboretum for local citizens and visitors to learn about native trees. He is working diligently to get property to build a new park between Mack and Dewitt Streets. It is on the east side of Sullivan Drive so that children in that neighborhood will have a new place to play without having to cross busy Sullivan Drive.

He successfully introduced legislation that strengthens the DWI laws and brings the local fines into alignment with state laws. This will be a deterrent and ultimately bring more revenue for the City of Bogalusa court system. Penton has also provided crime statistics to the Daily News on a quarterly basis, so citizens can be informed of the crime in their districts and neighborhoods.

In the ongoing fight against blight, Penton was able to work with the administration to take out about 30 blighted houses in his district.

“This issue is still being worked on and when more money is available we will clear more blighted property in District C,” he said. “It is my goal to have all blighted property in this district cleared. I encourage any citizen with any problems with blighted property contact the Public Works Department or me for assistance.

“I want to finish the job that I started. I thank the citizens of District C for allowing me to serve and ask that you will support me in my bid for reelection.”
