La. state troopers intercept drug
shipment on Interstate 12

Louisiana State Police Troopers assigned to the High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area task force stopped a 2006 Mack 18 wheeler towing a grain trailer for a traffic violation and found the truck’s load included more than just grain.

The traffic stop was made at 1:50 p.m. Sunday on Interstate 12 in St. Tammany Parish. The driver of the truck was identified as Nick Housinger, 54, of Auxier, Ky.

Upon speaking with Housinger, troopers noted that he appeared to be very nervous and gave inconsistent stories regarding his travel plans, according to TFC Nick Manale. They obtained both verbal and written consent to search vehicle.

“During the search, troopers discovered a large hidden compartment in the front portion of the trailer,” he said. “Further inspection of the compartment revealed 78 bundles, wrapped in plastic, that were determined to be marijuana.”

Troopers transported Housinger and the 18 wheeler to Troop L where the total weight of the marijuana was measured to be 1,138 pounds. The estimated street value of the narcotics is approximately $796,000.00, said Manale.

Housinger was charged with following too closely and possession with intent to distribute marijuana. He was booked without incident at the St. Tammany Parish Jail in Covington.
